Preeti Dalal Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the Agnipath scheme, assuring that it won’t adversely affect the future of youths joining as Agniveers. Speaking at the Times Now Summit in New Delhi, Singh addressed concerns surrounding the scheme, stating that the government remains open to necessary modifications.
Singh emphasized the importance of maintaining a youthful profile in the armed forces, highlighting the benefits of recruiting young individuals, such as increased risk-taking spirit and technological proficiency. He assured that the scheme provides a guarantee for the future of recruits and addressed issues regarding reservations and potential shortcomings.

Regarding national security, Singh underscored the government’s confidence in the armed forces, asserting that India’s borders are “totally secure.” He urged the public to have faith in the country’s security apparatus, particularly amidst ongoing tensions with China in eastern Ladakh.
Reflecting on his political journey, Singh discussed his approach to addressing opposition queries on strategic matters, emphasizing the need for discretion in discussing defence affairs.
Agniveer Scheme Launched in 2022
The Agnipath scheme, launched in June 2022, aims to recruit individuals aged 17 and a half to 21 years for a four-year term, with the option to retain a portion for an additional 15 years. Singh also provided insights into the Ladakh border standoff, assuring the public based on his extensive experience in security matters.
