Akshay Kumar Expresses Gratitude with #OhMyGadar Hashtag, Acknowledges Viewers for Unprecedented Week in Indian Film History

Following the fantastic reception to his film “Oh My God 2” and Sunny Deol’s “Gadar 2,” both of which were released on August 11, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar congratulated moviegoers on Thursday for providing the exhibition sector “the greatest week in Indian film history.”

The “busiest single weekend” since movie theaters opened following the Covid pandemic occurred from August 11–13, according to the Producers Guild of India (PGI) and Multiplex Association of India (MAI), with “Gadar 2” making Rs 134.88 crore and “OMG 2” earning Rs 43.11 crore at the domestic box office.

The actor referenced the joint success of “OMG 2” and “Gadar 2,” both sequels, by using the hashtag #OhMyGadar.

“We would like to express our gratitude to our audiences for their support of #OhMyGadar and for making this the best week in Indian film history! Akshay said on X, formerly known as Twitter, “Pyaar aur aabhar (Love and gratitude) #Gadar2 in theaters #OMG2 in theaters.”

It’s interesting to note that the actor also appears singing “Udd Ja Kaale Kaawan,” a song from “Gadar 2,” in his film “OMG 2 where he plays a Shiva messenger.

“OMG 2,” written and directed by Amit Rai, stars Pankaj Tripathi as Kanti Sharan Mudgal, a devotee of Lord Shiva, along with Akshay. The film, which was made by Cape of Good Films and Wakaoo Films, discusses a variety of teenage difficulties as well as the value of sex education.

On Wednesday, Wakaoo Films revealed that “OMG 2” had made Rs 79.47 crore since its premiere.

According to production company Zee Studios, Anil Sharma’s “Gadar 2” earned Rs 32.37 crore on its sixth day of release, bringing its total domestic box office profits to Rs 261.35 crore.

The 1971 film “Gadar 2” follows Tara Singh (Deol) as he travels to Pakistan in order to save his son Charanjeet Singh from the Pakistani Army’s control. Charanjeet Singh is portrayed by Utkarsh Sharma.

PGI and MAI report that “OMG 2” and “Gadar 2” together with Rajinikanth’s Tamil film “Jailer” and Chiranjeevi’s Telugu film “Bhola Shankar” produced a total gross box office revenue of close to Rs 390 crore during the course of the weekend in all India theaters.

The film “Jailer” made Rs 375.40 crores in its first week of release (starting on August 10), according to Sun Pictures, the production company behind it. According to an X post, the revenues were the “highest 1st-week gross collection in the history of Tamil cinema.”
