Ahmedabad is known for
its orderly streets and strict enforcement of traffic regulations. However, the
AMC saw the need to impose new laws to reduce traffic congestion at critical
intersections and improve the flow of traffic overall.

Therefore, the AMC has
decided to install yellow boxes at 25 busiest intersections throughout the
city, beginning with Panjarapol. According to the rules, drivers must not enter
these yellow boxes unless there is a visible exit or they are waiting to turn
right.
You’ll often find these
bright yellow boxes around busy intersections or places where emergency
vehicles like fire trucks and ambulances need to get through frequently. A
senior city official indicated that the goal of the boxes was to keep the
junction clear for through-traffic and so reduce the likelihood of traffic
backups.
Yellow Box Junctions
are easy to spot because they have a yellow box with yellow lines that cross
each other written on the road.
Its goal is to keep
cars from getting in the way of traffic at intersections so that traffic can
flow smoothly. The RAC (Royal Automobile Club) has rules about the Highway Code
that say drivers should be careful when approaching a Yellow Box Junction.
It is very important
not to go into the intersection unless there is enough room on the other side
for your car to cross the box without having to stop. This makes sure that the
box stays clear and that other cars can get to it.
The AMC intends to
introduce a fine structure for offenders of the yellow box rule similar to
those imposed for crossing stop lines in order to ensure compliance with the
rule. CCTV cameras located all around the city are reportedly being equipped
with artificial intelligence programmes that are being trained by the AMC and
the city traffic police to identify the license plates of vehicles that break
the regulation.
The AMC’s goal in
installing these yellow boxes and enforcing fines for disobeying them is to
ease traffic congestion in the city’s most congested regions.
