Lok Sabha Polls: polling booths not to be shifted in Naxal affected area

Government officials have made a crucial decision regarding polling stations in areas affected by Naxal violence in Gaya district. In the past, due to the threat of Naxalite attacks, polling booths were often moved to safer locations, causing inconvenience to voters. However, this year, authorities have announced that polling stations in these areas will remain in their original places.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ashish Bharti stated, “We have decided not to relocate the six polling stations located in highly Naxal-affected areas surrounded by dense forests. These polling booths, including one in Nawada, will remain where they are. Stringent security measures will be implemented to ensure voters can cast their ballots without fear.”

Previously, Naxalites would often boycott elections in these severely affected regions, creating an atmosphere of intimidation during election season. Attacks on polling booths and security forces by Naxalites have been a recurring issue.

However, according to Bharti, the situation has evolved significantly. A recent meeting between police and paramilitary forces in Gaya discussed strategies for combating Naxal violence. Officials from Gaya and neighboring districts participated in the meeting.

The upcoming Lok Sabha Elections in Bihar will be conducted in seven phases, beginning on April 19 and concluding on June 1, with vote counting scheduled for June 4.
