WPL 2024: RCB makes history as they wins first Trophy in 16 years

WPL 2024: In a stunning turn of events, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s women’s team led by Smriti Mandhana clinched the trophy in the WPL 2024, breaking the franchise’s 16-year-long trophy drought. The team not only secured the coveted trophy but also claimed the Orange and Purple Caps, marking a historic moment for the franchise.

The Final Match Showdown

The thrilling final match of WPL 2024 took place between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday. Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to bat first, putting up a decent start with their opening batsmen. However, they stumbled after losing their first wicket in the form of Shefali Verma at 64 runs. The team continued to lose wickets, ultimately getting all out for 113 runs in 18.3 overs.

In response, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s opening pair of Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine laid a solid foundation, adding 49 runs to the scoreboard. Despite Devine’s dismissal, Alice Perry and captain Mandhana accelerated the run chase. RCB achieved the target of 114 runs in 19.3 overs, losing only 2 wickets in the process.

Star Performers Shine

Elise Perry from Royal Challengers Bangalore emerged as the top scorer of WPL 2024, earning her the Orange Cap with 347 runs. On the bowling front, Shreyanka Patil impressed with her exceptional performance, claiming the Purple Cap as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament, securing 13 wickets overall and 4 crucial wickets in the final match.

Recognition and Rewards

In addition to their on-field achievements, Elise Perry and Shreyanka Patil were awarded a prize of Rs 5 lakh each along with their respective caps. This victory not only signifies a breakthrough for Royal Challengers Bangalore’s women’s team but also highlights the talent and resilience present in women’s cricket, paving the way for more historic moments in the future.
